What We Learned this Week: Bible:   This week, our class explored the lives of three different kings and the lessons we can learn from their leadership and faith. Here is a summary of what we studied: 👑 King Abijah: Remembering the Covenant We began the week by looking at King Abijah. We learned how he reminded the Israelites of their sacred covenant with God. Because of his faith and reliance on that promise, God granted Abijah and the army of Judah a great victory. 👑 King Asa: The Importance of Obedience Next, we studied King Asa. For most of his reign, Asa followed God's path, and we saw how God poured out blessings on both the king and His people during those times. However, we also discussed the difficult lesson that both the leader and the people suffered whenever they turned away from following God. 👑 King Ahab: Resisting Negative Influences Finally, we looked at King Ahab as a cautionary tale. Ahab allowed himself to be swayed by evil influences, which led him away from ...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:   This week, we looked at the moment God’s people split into two nations.  After King Solomon died, his son Rehoboam took the throne. When the people asked him to be a kind and fair leader, he chose pride over compassion. He threatened to be even harsher than his father, causing ten tribes to rebel and form the Northern Kingdom (Israel) under a leader named Jeroboam.  Fearing he would lose control, Jeroboam built golden calves for the people to worship instead of God. This act of idolatry led the nation away from the Lord and resulted in God’s judgment on Jeroboam’s family.  Leadership requires a servant's heart. When we choose pride or fear over God’s wisdom, we hurt the people around us. In an effort to provide sufficient study and preparation time, I am sharing the materials needed to review for our upcoming Unit 11 Bible Test. This test is tentatively scheduled for  Tuesday, February 24 . To help your child prepare ove...

Week of February 2 to 6

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We studied the extent of King Solomon's wealth and read about his many building projects- palaces, ships, and stables. During this time, he had heavily taxed the people in order to fund these ambitious projects. We read about the queen of Sheba's visit, and we focused on her comment of Solomon's great love for God and God's great blessings on him and his household. However, King Solomon failed in some areas. He married many foreign women and built places of worship for their idols and he himself began to worship those idols as well. Solomon relied on his wealth, power, and wisdom and grew distant from God. The students took the test on King Solomon, and we look forward to studying our next unit- "The Divided Kingdom." Math:  This week, we worked with number strings to identify patterns and continue with the pattern. We also did similar work with figures. We looked at math tables to identify the rule given the numbers and work...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We started our unit by learning that God offered to give Solomon anything he desired. Wanting to rule God's people well, Solomon asked for wisdom. Pleased with his decision, God blessed Solomon with both wisdom and riches. We also spent some time studying the intricacy and beauty of Solomon's design for God's temple. The construction of the temple only took seven years, while construction for King Solomon's palace lasted for thirteen years. It was during this time period that Solomon made Israel a great trading nation and gained a reputation for being the world's richest and wisest man.  We will be finishing up this unit within the next week.  In an effort to provide ample study and review time, I am sharing the resources for the upcoming   Unit 9 Bible Test on King Solomon . The test is tentatively scheduled for   Friday, February 6 . To help your student prepare, please find the study materials and review games linked below: ...
