Week of March 23 to 27

What We Learned this Week: Bible:   This week, our classroom took a quiet and meaningful pause for a special Faith Writing Prompt . Instead of our typical lesson format, we invited the students to look inward and think about the people and experiences that have shaped their hearts. Key Highlights: Knowing and Loving Jesus : The students were asked to write about who or what has helped them know and love Jesus more. We spent time brainstorming together, sharing stories of family members, friends, church experiences, and even quiet moments of prayer. A "Spiritual Time Capsule" : We emphasized the importance of using their best handwriting for this entry. Our hope is that when the students are older, they can look back at these pages and see a clear "snapshot" of how their relationship with God was growing in the 4th grade. Personal Connections : It was moving to see the students express gratitude for the "cloud of witnesses" in their lives—the people who ...

What We Learned this Week: Math:   We took our fraction skills to the next level this week! Our mathematicians moved beyond simple parts of a whole and began exploring how to work with amounts greater than one. Key Highlights: Operations with Like Denominators : Students practiced adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. The "Aha!" moment came when they realized that as long as the "denominators" (the size of the pieces) are the same, we can simply join or separate the "numerators" (the number of pieces). The Great Conversion: We learned the "secret code" for switching back and forth between Mixed Numbers (like 1 3/4) and Improper Fractions (like 7/4). This is a vital skill for more complex math down the road! Comparing Mixed Numbers: We practiced comparing values like 2 1/3 and 1 2/3. Students are learning to look at the whole numbers first, then the fractional parts, to determine which value is greater. Reading:   We took anothe...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:   It has been a significant week of transition in our Bible studies. We focused on the powerful conclusion of one prophet’s mission and the beginning of another’s. Key Highlights: The Fiery Chariot: In Lesson 8, we witnessed the incredible way Elijah’s time on earth ended. He did not die but was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot! Passing the Mantle: We saw that God chose Elisha to succeed Elijah as His prophet. Confirmation of a Prophet: The students learned that God used three specific signs to reveal to everyone that Elisha was indeed His chosen prophet to carry on the work. Unit 12 Review & Assessment: We spent the rest of our week reviewing all the lessons in Unit 12 to prepare for our test, which the students completed at the end of the week. Math:   We officially closed the chapter on Unit 5 and opened up the exciting world of f ractions this week! Key Highlights: Unit 5 Wrap-Up: We kicked off the week with a final r...

❄️ The "Michigan Weather" Update: Some of our students took their snow gear home today! We’re hoping for a little "freshening up" of those snow pants and coats over the weekend. As we all know, Michigan weather likes to keep us guessing—so if the forecast looks like snow, please send that clean gear back to school so we are ready for recess! What We Learned this Week: Bible:   It has been an action-packed week in Bible class as we continued our journey through the life of the prophet Elijah and the reign of King Ahab. The students explored themes of courage, listening for God's voice, and the consequences of our choices. Key Highlights : Victory & Trial : We saw God’s incredible power on Mount Carmel , but we also learned that even heroes of faith like Elijah face hard times. After being threatened by Queen Jezebel, Elijah fled for his life. A Still, Small Voice : In his moment of fear, God didn't leave Elijah alone. He provided an angel for encourag...
