Week of March 25 to 28

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have started our unit on the divided kingdom of Israel and Judah. We learned about King Jeroboam who became the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel. This king sinned greatly by establishing golden calves in the strategic cities of Bethel and Dan. Math:  The students have been studying the metric system and have been learning how to convert between units of measurement within the system (length, liquid volume, and mass / weight). Reading:   This week, we talked about the significance of titles of books, names of characters and places, and color.  Grammar:  We started off the week by reviewing the Spanish present perfect tense. This tense is used to talk about past actions or events that are somehow connected to the present. We also reviewed the following Spanish digraphs this week: ch, rr, and ll. Week of March 18 to 22

What We Learned this Week: Bible : The students took the test over King Solomon. We look forward to next week in which we begin our study on the divided kingdom. We will also spend a few days next week studying Easter.  Math : We are just about finished with Unit 4. We will start Unit 5 next week which is all about measuring (distance, weight, time).  Reading : This week, we studied repeated objects found in our chapter books and their importance / symbolism to the story.  Social Studies : We concluded our government unit right on time! We were able to conclude our unit studying the Bill of Rights, and the next day we found ourselves in Lansing at the state capitol. It was a great trip! From interacting with the force of water to feeling static electricity (ask the kids about the static electricity workshop!) all the way to walking the beautiful halls and rooms of the state capitol building- we REALLY did it all.
