Week of March 25 to 28
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We have started our unit on the divided kingdom of Israel and Judah. We learned about King Jeroboam who became the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel. This king sinned greatly by establishing golden calves in the strategic cities of Bethel and Dan.
Math: The students have been studying the metric system and have been learning how to convert between units of measurement within the system (length, liquid volume, and mass / weight).
Reading: This week, we talked about the significance of titles of books, names of characters and places, and color.
Grammar: We started off the week by reviewing the Spanish present perfect tense. This tense is used to talk about past actions or events that are somehow connected to the present. We also reviewed the following Spanish digraphs this week: ch, rr, and ll.
Social Studies: In Social Studies, we have been reading about groups of people who have immigrated to Michigan, where they settled, and their reasons for immigrating. We then talked about the different push and pull factors. We ended the week by reading a few books detailing immigrants' journey to the United States. We also talked about Ellis Island and how it served as an immigration inspection and processing station. *Please have your student finish and turn in the Social Studies home letter I sent home a few days ago. That sheet asks your student to have a conversation with the family to talk about when your family first came to the United States. We will use this information in a future social studies class.*
