Week of November 24 and 25

*This is going to be a detailed blog this week. Sorry about that!* 

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: We will be finishing this unit at the end of the week of December 1 to 5. The test will happen most likely near the end of the week of December 8 to 12. In order to provide ample time to study, I am including the link to the English study guide. The English study guide is meant for the parents to help guide their student's studying at home. I am providing the link to the Spanish study guide as well. The students will receive the paper copy of the Spanish study guide before the Thanksgiving break. Additionally, I am providing the link to the Blooket review games. The questions are modeled off of the test questions.  

Math: The students practiced long division this week. Students are encouraged to practice long division at home over the break to keep up on the skills they have learned. We have been studying 3 digit by 1 digit long division and 4 digit by 1 digit division.

Child's Advocacy Center for K-4:


As part of our mission to equip minds and nurture hearts to transform the world for Jesus Christ, HC works to provide students with the knowledge and skills to guard themselves in this fallen world. Part of HC’s commitment to student safety is providing counsel and resources for sexual abuse prevention and intervention from the Children’s Advocacy Center. Please see the attached informed consent letter for more information. The Children’s advocacy center will not be sharing any videos during their lessons at Holland Christian.

If you have any questions about the content of the presentation, we encourage you to reach out to the Children’s Advocacy Center. If you would like your child to not participate in the presentation, please fill out this form at least one week prior to the presentation date. HC will anticipate participation unless they receive a submitted opt-out form.


Our classroom presentation will be on Wednesday, December 10th from 1:00 to 2:00.

We will do a few short classroom activities to follow up in the weeks after.

  • Upcoming Dates:

    • Thanksgiving Vacation: November 26-28

    • Christmas Vacation: December 22- January 2

  • Volunteers Needed: Christmas Luncheon - December 17th:  Would you be willing to volunteer during lunch on December 17 to allow the Rose Park staff to enjoy a time of celebration and fellowship? If so, please sign up here!

  • Coats, please! As the weather cools down, we want to make sure all our Rose Park kids stay cozy outside. If the temperature is 50 degrees or below, students are asked to wear a coat for recess. Please send a coat with your child each day so they can stay warm and enjoy their time outdoors. Thank you!

  • The Kindergarten classes are getting excited for our annual Cookie Sale, which is coming up on Thursday, December 11th! This year our proceeds will go to the Chan family. Noé and Kathlyn Chan, along with their two daughters Haddie and Alizah, are missionaries in Guatemala, serving God by using their gifts in art and physical therapy. They became friends with Maestra Klipp Lopez while her family was serving in Guatemala, and we are so excited to come alongside and support their family! The Cookie Sale will begin at 9:00am and cookies will cost 50 cents each. Below is more information about the Chan family and their ministry:

  • Sign ups are open for the Dutch Dance 2026 season! CLICK HERE to get signed up. Practice locations and times are listed on the link for each program. Registration closes on January 17th, 2026, 11:59pm. Absolutely no late registration accepted, so sign up today to Join the Dance in 2026! 

Work in the Kitchen! Food Service is looking for a part time person to work in the Rose Park Kitchen. We are in need of someone Monday through Thursday from 9:30am-1:30pm. If you are interested in one or all of those days, please contact Sue at slambers@hollandchristian.org with interest and availability.

Christmas Door Decoration Contest:

I really enjoy this time of year as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Christ. So many fun things happen around this time of year at school, too! Our school is kicking off a Christmas Door Decorating Contest, and I would love to invite you to partner with us to make our classroom door the best one yet! 

This is a fun opportunity for us to build community and show off our holiday spirit.

Project Details & Deadline

  • The Goal: Create a festive and creative door display based on the theme of a cozy, Christmas fireplace. However, I am definitely open to other ideas as well!

  • The Deadline: The door must be completely finished by Friday, December 5th.

  • How You Can Help: We need a few sets of hands to help with cutting, painting, and assembling the decorations, either during a designated time or by preparing materials at home.

Next Steps

If you are interested in lending your time, creativity, or materials, please send me an email and let me know:

  1. If you are available to come in after the school day for a few minutes to help with assembly. I would like to start decorating the door after school on Monday, December 1 and continue through the rest of the week as needed.

  2. If you can prepare any materials (cutting, painting, etc.) at home.

Progress Update for the Month of November:

Please expect the Progress Update for the month of November to be sent home with your student on Monday, December 1. After you have had a chance to review it, sign it and send it back to school with your student by Monday, December 8. Thank you for your partnership!


Reading Informational Unit Information:

We have started our exciting new Informational Reading Unit!

We will be diving into a rich selection of non-fiction texts, including classic non-fiction articles, narrative non-fiction chapter books, and hybrid non-fiction books. Over the past couple of years, I have been actively building our classroom library to provide the students with a wide range of materials for this unit.

To ensure every student has a rich selection of books at their reading level, I am currently still in need of a few more narrative non-fiction chapter books and hybrid non-fiction books.

If you are interested in helping expand our collection so that both our present and future students can enjoy these wonderful resources, a book donation would be SO appreciated!

Examples of the books we need:

  • Hybrid Non-Fiction: (The first four lines on my Amazon wishlist, such as "Querido Salvatierra" through the Magic School Bus "Explota," are examples of this genre.)

  • Narrative Non-Fiction Chapter Books: (All of the "¿Quién fue...?" and "¿Qué fue...?" chapter books on the list fit this category.)

Week of September 22 to 26

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied the love story of Ruth and Boaz. This story is also a love letter from God to us. He sent Jesus to become our Redeemer- just as Boaz was the kinsman-redeemer to Ruth. The Judges and Ruth test is scheduled for Thursday, October 2. I am including the English study guide here . This is for the parents to help support their student's studying. I am including the Spanish study guide here . The students have already received their physical copies. Week of May 12 to 16

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We reviewed and took the Unit 14 chapter test this week. Next week, we will start our Isaiah unit. Math:  This week, the students reviewed and took the Unit 7 chapter test. We are looking forward to starting geometry next week! Reading:  We are continuing to read and discuss "Number the Stars." The students are also continuing on with reading their novels as they met with their book club this week. Writing:  We have been working hard on our personal expertise essays. We have been working on finding a strong quote from a reputable source to back up our knowledge in addition to making sure that our introduction paragraphs hook our attention from the start. Spelling:  There will be NO more weekly spelling lists for the rest of the school year! Yay! However, the students will be taking one final spelling test- the 4th Grade High Frequency Word Test.
