Week of January 26 to 30
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We started our unit by learning that God offered to give Solomon anything he desired. Wanting to rule God's people well, Solomon asked for wisdom. Pleased with his decision, God blessed Solomon with both wisdom and riches. We also spent some time studying the intricacy and beauty of Solomon's design for God's temple. The construction of the temple only took seven years, while construction for King Solomon's palace lasted for thirteen years. It was during this time period that Solomon made Israel a great trading nation and gained a reputation for being the world's richest and wisest man.
We will be finishing up this unit within the next week. In an effort to provide ample study and review time, I am sharing the resources for the upcoming Unit 9 Bible Test on King Solomon. The test is tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 6.
To help your student prepare, please find the study materials and review games linked below:
Study Guides
Link to English Study Guide: This version is provided for parents to help support and guide their student’s learning at home.
Link to Spanish Study Guide: I plan on giving the students a physical copy of this Spanish study guide tomorrow.
Blooket Review
Blooket Game Review Link: Students can use this link to practice key concepts in a fun, interactive way.
I hope these resources are helpful for your family as we wrap up our study of King Solomon. Happy studying!
Math: This week, we continued working on solving word problems by writing equations with multi-steps. We also learned how to identify factor pairs and how to use that information to determine if a given number is prime or composite.
Reading: We determined the similarities and differences between types of non-fiction: narrative non-fiction, hybrid non-fiction, and informative non-fiction. The students categorized four book titles into these groups and provided evidence as to how they knew to which group each title belonged to.
Writing: We talked about three types of writing strategies the students could include in their writing: cause and effect, pros and cons, and compare and contrast. The students should incorporate at least one of these strategies into their non-fiction writing.
Social Studies: This week, the students completed a small project on a human characteristic found within the United States of America (Statue of Liberty, the White House, Mall of America, to name a few examples). We worked on our map reading and interpreting skills as we looked at several special purposes maps, and we ended the week by talking about different ways to group the states into different regions depending on what those states had in common.
Spelling: Here is the link to next week's spelling test!

Check your spam or junk mail! - we have heard from a few people in the Rose Park office that they have had e-mails from school go straight to their spam/junk mail. If you notice you’re missing things you typically receive check out your spam to see if your missing messages may be there!
If you typically pick up your child(ren) via the Peace Lutheran’s parking lot please allow the buses to have the right of way, and give them plenty of space to operate as they have afternoon routes to accomplish safely. Hemlock Crossing Park Field Trip Information (Thursday, February 12):
We are SO excited for our upcoming field trip to Hemlock Crossing Park on Thursday, February 12. We are leaving school immediately after our lunch time. Please make sure to send your child to school with their full winter gear on this day! We will spend the afternoon outside, and it could certainly be a bit chilly.
Please check out this link which contains a parent letter from the Ottawa County Parks and Recreation program supervisor. Note: The students won't need to bring a snack with them on the field trip as we will arrive back to school on time to eat our afternoon snacks.
Additionally, we are still looking for a few more parents to chaperone this field trip. If this interests you, please check out this link. Thank you for considering! If you have signed up to chaperone this field trip, I will be reaching out via email really soon with some information.
