¡Bienvenidos! Welcome!
Greetings parents and students! The blog is finally here! I appreciate your gracious patience. Thank you so much for the lovely evening at the ice cream social. It was wonderful meeting the students and having the opportunity to speak with the parents.
About Me
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hannah Damsteegt, and I am your child's 4th grade Spanish immersion teacher at Rose Park. I am originally from Martin, Michigan but moved to Grand Rapids in 2013. Since then, I had the opportunity to live in Arequipa, Peru for half a year in addition to living in Merida, Mexico for a month. I also have done extensive independent travels to other countries: Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. I graduated from Calvin University in 2015 with a degree in Secondary K-12 Spanish Education with a minor in ESL. In 2020, I graduated from Nyack College with a Master's degree in Inclusive Education with an Extension in Bilingual Education. I have been teaching English immersion at the 3rd grade level for the past 6 years at International School Tegucigalpa located in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I love helping elementary students acquire language!
I enjoy going to the gym, so if you have a membership at Planet Fitness I will most likely be seeing you there occasionally. I have a slight obsession with succulents, and I am sure my classroom collection will steadily grow during this year.
Contact Me
If you need to contact me, please email me at hdamsteegt@hollandchristianschool.org. I just ask that I am given an appropriate amount of time to respond. Thanks! ☺
Important Date
Please remember that the first day of school is on Tuesday, August 23. It will be a half-day with dismissal happening at 11:30 AM.
Classroom Need
I will be needing some indoor recess games / activities for those rainy days. If you have any games / activities laying around your house, I'd love to have them! Some of you have asked me about an Amazon wish list. I don't have it ready quite yet, but I will certainly post that to the blog once I do have it.
Again, thank you for your patience as I acclimate myself to Rose Park. I am very excited to have your kiddos, and I know this will be a fun year filled with learning and a loving community.
I feel comforted by this verse as we all prepare for the new school year. It can be scary and intimidating to face and start something new, but God gives us this perfect sense of comfort and peace.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
