Week of October 17 to 19

 What We Learned this Week

Math: This week, we worked on using estimation to solve for a multiplication problem. We also worked on using place value to multiply. We used the Place Value Sections Method and the Expanded Notation Method. We closed the week out by reviewing the first few lessons we covered in chapter 2.

Reading: We talked about how a quality of a strong reader involves taking the main character from a story and stepping into the world of that character. By doing so, we are better able to gain a deeper understanding of who the character is and are thus better able to imagine and comprehend the story in our heads.

Writing: The students worked on adding dialogue to their realistic fiction stories with correct punctuation. We will be continuing with the drafting process and will be working on adding paragraphs and transitional words next week.

Reminders

Grandparent's Day is scheduled for Thursday, October 29. The grandparents will be able to visit their grandchild in the classroom between 10:15 and 10:45 AM. Afterwards, there will be a short program in the large gym from 11:00 until 11:15 AM.

Orchestra Concert

The middle school orchestra visited us on Monday afternoon and gifted us with a wonderful concert. Music was made for God, and the students got to learn a little bit more about each stringed instrument that makes up the orchestra.

Matilda!

HCHS’s Theatre Department is proud to present Matilda for the Fall Musical this year! Based on the book by Roald Dahl, Matilda is the inspiring story of a girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, psychokinetic powers, and an extraordinary imagination who dreams of a better life. You won’t want to miss this incredibly fun musical. Performances are November 17-19 at 7 pm. Due to licensing restrictions we are unable to livestream this Fall’s production, but you can get your in-person tickets at hollandchristian.org/theatre beginning October 17th.
