Week of October 3 to 7

 What We Learned this Week

Bible: We finished our study on Ruth and wrapped up the week by reviewing and preparing for the Judges and Ruth test scheduled for next week Tuesday. I sent some links to your emails that contain Blooket review games. I will provide the links here too for your convenience. The students may play those games in order to review and prepare for their upcoming test.

Math: We finished chapter 1 this week and took a test. We started chapter 2 on arrays and will continue to study them and multiplication next week.

Reading: This week, we talked about strategies students can employ when they come across new and even confusing words as they read. We also discussed the importance of having a good attitude towards reading and to consciously think about our attitudes while we read.

Writing: We have been working on story mountains this week. The students thought out the events that will make up their realistic fiction story and wrote them on their graphic organizer. They are ready to start drafting next week!

Science: The students worked on a big project this week! They finished up a written report demonstrating all that they have learned in this unit. I was very impressed at how excited they were! They are shaping up to be inquisitive, detail-oriented scientists.

Grammar: This week, we reviewed the irregular Spanish imperfect verbs- "ser,""ver," and "ir." We also studied two more Spanish consonants that make the same sound in certain words- "ll" and "y."

A Special Visitor

Mr. Bryant Russ, Director of Faith Formation at Holland Christian Schools, had the opportunity to visit our classroom and meet our kiddos. They enjoyed a time of fellowship and read a book together. Mr. Russ closed our time together with prayer. We look forward to the next time Mr. Russ visits us!

Upcoming Spanish Immersion Field Trip

On Friday, October 14, the K-4th grade Spanish Immersion students will be taking a field trip to Hemlock Crossing. We will be worshiping God, spending time in fellowship with one another in nature, and will participate in Spanish-filled activities. It might be brisk out! Make sure to send a sweatshirt / coat with your child if he / she will be needing one.

We plan on bringing our lunches and eating at Hemlock Crossing. If your student wishes to order a hot lunch that day, the school will provide a turkey sandwich bag lunch consisting of the following: turkey sandwich, chips, fruit, veggie, and water. Please let me know via email by Tuesday, October 11 by 3:00 PM if your student will be ordering this lunch.
