Week of January 3 to 6

What We Learned this Week

Bible: This week, we talked about Saul's jealousy of David. The Spirit of God had left King Saul, and he retaliated against young David. However, God's protective hand was over David as he faced a giant, the Philistine army, and King Saul's spear.

Math: The students are becoming quite the experts at long division! I encourage the students to continue practicing their basic multiplication and division facts at home so that they can continue becoming long division experts.

Writing: This week, the students continued their research of articles to back up their reasons they have come up with for their persuasive essays.

Social Studies: We talked about different types of region maps this week. The United States is massive and can be broken up into different types of regions to make study easier. The students tried their hand at coming up with their own regions and very unique names for them. Wow! The students are very creative!

Girls' Running Club

Third- through fifth-grade girls are invited to join the Rose Park Girls' Running Club this spring. Together, we will learn about the physical and mental benefits of running as the girls gain confidence and work toward the goal of running a 5K at the end of the program. The club is designed to be fun and welcoming and there is no cost to participate.

Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, March 14 (no practices during spring break). The club ends with the Tulip Time 5K on May 6.

To sign up or for more information, contact coach Goldie Van Horn at 570-401-7181 or goldievanhorn@gmail.com.

Spanish Immersion Activity

January 6 is Dia de los Reyes Magos! This holiday represents the day the three wisemen visited Jesus and gave Him gifts. We had the opportunity to celebrate today! All the grade levels met up in the small gym to learn about this special holiday. Then, they divided up into groups to play a game. Later, all the students tried a piece of "Rosca de Reyes" ("King's Cake). I enjoyed seeing the 4th graders take on their leadership roles as they helped and guided the younger grades. Way to go, 4th graders!
