Week of February 6 to 10

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: We read the story of how David became King of Israel according to 2 Samuel chapter 5. We look forward to studying more of 2 Samuel.

Math: We have started a brand-new unit this week! The students were introduced to the basics of algebra which included simplifying expressions, solving for an unknown part of an equation, and solving an equation given a value.

Reading: This week, we learned about the importance of using vocabulary words that pertain to the topic that we are reading about in informational texts. It helps us to better be able to teach the individuals we are wishing to share our knowledge with. We also learned about three different types of text this week- narrative information text, hybrid text, and informational text. We ended the week by starting to read our own narrative information books. The students picked out the books that interested them the most from the library, and then they started reading them. The students look forward to reading more of their books soon.

Writing: This week, the students took some time to think about topics that they know very well. We talked about the importance of being able to hone into a specific topic and choosing to write specifically about a topic instead of broadly. The students are quite excited to show off their knowledge in their upcoming personal narrative essays, and I look forward to learning about the topics that they know much about.

Social Studies: This week, we read from a mentor text to learn about the Underground Railroad. We are really enjoying our research as we are learning about the different types of movement that occurred during America's history.

LOTS of Fun Activities this Week!:

Monday marked the 100th day of school! In order to celebrate, I got the kiddos a special 100th day treat! I think they enjoyed their "sweet and salty" snack of pretzels and chocolate-covered mini doughnuts. It was fun celebrating this fun occasion with the students.

Swimming lessons have officially ended this week. The students enjoyed their time at the pool during these past two weeks, and I saw the students' confidence grow immensely. Check out the photos below.

Our field trip to Hemlock Crossing was so much fun. The kids enjoyed the hands-on experience identifying different types of animal skulls and then going outside for a nature walk. It was quite brisk, but the fresh air felt amazing.

From the Office:

Valentine's Day Activity:

The students are allowed to bring in Valentine's cards and treats for their classmates on Tuesday, February 14. However, I ask that if they choose to bring them to school, they must have one for each student. We love because God loved us first, and I want everyone to model God's love for us, and I want everyone to feel His love. The students may bring in a decorated bag / box in order to carry their Valentine's Day goodies back to their homes.
