April 17 to 21
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We studied the queen of Sheba's visit to Solomon's palace. We talked about why she noticed such happiness there. In short, she noticed the presence of God and the devotion of the people to Him. Are we making it clear that we have the presence of God in our own hearts?
Math: This week, we studied the difference between perimeter and area. The students are doing a good job following the formulas to find each in a given square or rectangle.
Reading: We have started off our new historical fiction unit. The books that we will be reading and studying come from the WWII era. We started off this unit by talking about what we already know about this time era and conducting some research to further our knowledge. We will start reading our historical fiction books set during the WWII era next week.
Writing: The students have finished their personal expertise essays, and we will be celebrating with the other 4th grade sections next week. How exciting!
Science: We talked about how patterns in sound can be used to communicate. We studied Morse Code, and we assembled a telegraph machine! The students were even able to interact with the telegraph by tapping on it! We will continue our study next week.
From the Spanish Immersion Team:
There is still time to sign up for our Día del Niño celebration! We still need a few more items, as well as some more parent volunteers—especially those who speak Spanish! It is going to be such a fun afternoon—thank you for helping make it a success!
A Special Visit:
My parents came to visit the school on Friday afternoon. My dad told some jokes (in Spanish!), and was greatly impressed at how well they responded to them. He also conducted a math trick with the kids and was once again impressed at the students' explanation of how the trick works. Finally, he read a book to the students, and I read the Spanish version. While the kids listened to the story, my mom gave each child a homemade monster cookie. But, the fun did not end there! My dad plays the piano and wanted to give a mini piano concert. We invited the whole school, and many classes joined us in the WELL for a time of hymn singing and singing some Disney hits. What a fun time! I hope the kids enjoyed their afternoon.
