Week of September 18 to 22
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week we began our study of Israel's judges! We learned about a famous left-handed judge, Ehud, and later we learned about Deborah. We also talked about Jael and how she played an important part in securing a victory for the Israelites.
Math: We have been practicing / refreshing our subtraction including with and without regrouping. We have also been learning how to check our subtraction by doing an addition problem.
Writing: The students have completed their story mountain graphic organizer for their realistic fiction stories. We will begin to draft our stories on the iPads next week.
Grammar: We reviewed common Spanish irregular past tense verbs. This can be tricky for the students in their oral and written Spanish output since they are applying internalized general rules to verbs that undergo changes in the past tense. This is not grammatically correct. When I catch those errors, I like to restate what the student said to model with the correction. With time, the students will naturally produce the correct conjugations of Spanish irregular past tense verbs. We also reviewed and talked about how the letters "j" and "g" can sometimes sound similar in Spanish.
Science: We have shifted from plants and are now talking about how the internal structures of animals work together. To model this, we have conducted a short experiment in class. We measured our resting heart rate in BPM and then completed a set of exercises. Then, we measured our heart rates again and documented the data. We will be using this data for future science classes.
