Week of September 25 to 29

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week we talked about who Nazarites were and the most famous Nazarite of all- Samson. We learned that Nazarites were people who separated themselves from others and consecrated themselves to God. We learned about Samson's marriage and his revenge and later we studied the story of Samson and Delilah. 

Math: We have been working on reading word problems and writing equations to solve the given problem. The students will be reviewing and taking the chapter 1 test next week.

Writing: We are just about ready to start the drafting process! I am working on logging into the students' Gmail accounts so that they can start the process. They are very excited. 

Grammar: The students reviewed the three irregular imperfect tenses verbs: "ir," "ver" and "ser." We also talked about how the "ll" and "y" consonants make the same sound in Spanish.

Science: The students worked with me to create a scientific responses in our science journals. Good scientists need to know how to use their reasoning and writing skills to back up their claims!

  1. Safety and Security-Holland Christian is implementing consistent security measures for all K-12 students (Preschool will continue their typical drop off and pick up with parents’ entry at both Rose Park and South Side). Now that school has been underway for six weeks, we are asking parent/student drop off and good-bye to take place at the front door. By October 9, we hope that all children will be able to navigate their way from the front door to their classroom. Teachers and staff will be readily available to support and cheer our independent students to their lockers and classrooms. This measure is important so that we do not have unknown or unexpected visitors accessing our buildings. This safety measure is consistent throughout all of our buildings. You’re still welcome inside as needed, please stop in at the office for a check in and name badge. Thank you for your understanding. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied David's desire to build a temple for God. We talked about how God sometimes says "no" as an answer to our desires. Just like David, we cannot allow that to make us feel bitter. God's will and plan is always good and perfect.  Math:  The students finished up their Unit 3 tests this week. We have started Unit 4 which is all about algebra. We started off by simplifying like expressions. I am including some practice exercises. Week of August 26 to 29

What We Learned this Week Bible : We are kicking off our Bible class by understanding how Scripture interprets Scripture. We are studying the book of Philippians to do so. We investigated the events that took place during Paul's second missionary journey along with the people he met. Ultimately, we learned that Paul's primary focus was to know Christ even more- which should be our motive as well.  This unit is very short, so the students will be taking a quiz over the material we have learned thus far late next week. However, it is quite possible that the quiz will be pushed to early the following week. The students will be given a hard copy of the study guide, and I am including a digital copy of the study guide here as well. I also like to include links to a gamified version of the study guide. Week of September 16 to 20

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished up our study on the flawed prophet Samson. We are now studying another story that took place during the time of Israel's judges- the story of Ruth. We have read up on how Ruth and Naomi traveled back to Bethlehem and how Ruth met Boaz.  The students will be taking the Judges and Ruth Test early in the week of September 30 to October 4. I will be providing the students a physical copy of the Spanish study guide on Monday. I am providing an electronic version of the Spanish study guide here . I am also including an English study guide for parent use only. Feel free to use this resource to support your student.  Additionally, I have made a Blooket using the test questions.
