Week of January 22 to 26
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week, we learned about the death of King Saul. Later, we read the account of the lie the Amalekite man told David in regards to King Saul's death. The students will take the chapter 7 test on Monday. Next, we look forward to studying King David's reign.
Math: The students worked on solving word problems and deciding what operation to use in order to solve them- addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
Reading: This week, the students pushed their thinking with the facts that they learned. Later, they used graphic organizers in order to record describing words and phrases related to the topics found within the informational texts they are reading.
Writing: The students worked on three different elements that back up the reasons for their persuasive essays- micro-stories, surveys, and interviews. Next week, the students will continue to work on these essays and then we will spend some time to develop the structure of the essay.
Grammar: This week, we worked on forming and using the Spanish future tense to talk about what will happen in the future. We also studied how the letters "c" and "g" have different sounds when placed before certain letters.
Social Studies: We spent some time talking about man-made features on maps. Then, the students chose a famous American man-made feature and conducted research to identify the following: its purpose, the year it was constructed, interesting facts, and its location. We closed off the week by looking at different types of specialty maps such as temperature maps and population maps.
