Week of February 5 to 9

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we studied David's desire to build a temple for God. We talked about how God sometimes says "no" as an answer to our desires. Just like David, we cannot allow that to make us feel bitter. God's will and plan is always good and perfect.

Math: The students finished up their Unit 3 tests this week. We have started Unit 4 which is all about algebra. We started off by simplifying like expressions. I am including some practice exercises. If your student wishes to practice simplifying like expressions, s/he can complete this page and turn it in. I will provide feedback.

Writing: We are now officially finished with the Persuasive Essays. We look forward to next week when we move on to the Personal Expertise Essay.

Social Studies: The students finished their Geography of the United States Google Slides Project this week. We will be studying movements of people within the United States next week.

February 12 to 23 Spelling List (Spelling Test on February 23!!)

Friendship Day Celebration (February 14):

Friendship Day (Valentine's Day) is coming up on Wednesday, February 14! I like to celebrate the friendships that God has blessed us with. If your child would like to bring in goodies to share with the class, that is acceptable! Please make sure that ALL students receive one. Take a look at the list of the students in our class. We have a few allergies, so please take note of that. I have some bags that the students can decorate and use to store their goodies and take them home. I will be doing this celebration at the end of the day since I don't want 14 kiddos to experience a sugar rush at one time. 😵

Open Invitation for Parents to Watch Swimming Lessons (February 15):

Parents are welcomed to come to the Holland Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 15 to watch the swimming lessons. The 4th graders will be at the pool from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

From the Office:

Carpool: In an effort to be smooth and efficient in the carpool line, please take a look at these expectations: First, at morning drop off please pull as far forward as possible, and coach your children on exiting the car quickly, this allows us to get all students into the building and to their classrooms as soon as possible. If we can avoid adults getting out of the car this allows the line to move quickly, and we can get our school day started right at 8:15.  Additionally, after school -  please make sure to give the three carpool lanes the right of way. As soon as we release the carpool lanes we need to those to continue moving, avoiding stops from people walking through the parking lot or parking lot vehicles  trying to exit. Once the first round of carpool is released then you may continue to exit the parking lot or cross from the sidewalk!
