We have kicked off this week by studying how God provided for Elijah while he was on the run from King Ahab.  Math:  The students took the unit 5 test this week. We will be starting the fractions unit next week! Reading:  We have started to read the book "Number the Stars." This is the book we are reading together as a class for the historical fiction unit. However, as is the tale with previous kings, there were times in which he disobeyed God. Math:  We have been busy in math class! We practiced using the metric system to convert units of weight. We then started to study the U.S. Customary Units System to convert units of distance and weight. Reading:  This week, we read a handful of myths and legends. These types of stories are usually full of unusual and interesting settings. We talked about how the setting can stir up emotion within the reader. We also focused on how character dialogue and sequences of action allow us to understand a character better. Social Studies:  We talked about the physical items that immigrants took with them from their home countries when they came to the United States. The kids thought about what they would pack in a trunk if they were immigrating to a new count...
