April 15 to 19
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week, we studied king Asa and how he obeyed and disobeyed God. We concluded the week by studying how King Ahab disobeyed God. A great topic for conversation this week could be the following: What kind of influences do you face? Are they good or bad? Are you a good influence? How are you a good influence to others?
Math: We studied area and perimeter of rectangles this week. We took it a step further and learned how to solve for unknown sides of rectangles and calculating the area and perimeter from there. If your student (or you!) would like to see how this is done, I am including a video here. It's in English, so that mom and dad are able to understand. If your student wants to practice a bit more at home, I am including two worksheets. One has an answer key, and the other one doesn't. If your child turns in the one without an answer key, I can definitely go over it with your student.
Reading: We have started our historical fiction unit! We are kicking off the unit by taking time to understand the real settings. Fourth grade's historical fiction unit focuses during the time of World War II. We will be starting our chapter books next week.
Grammar: This week, we reviewed the Spanish irregular past tense participles. We also studied the differences between Spanish diphthongs and hiatuses which is when two vowels are found together within a Spanish word.
Social Studies: We talked about the different kinds of environments found within the United States. We used that knowledge to talk about the certain challenges and problems that one would face when leaving one environment and moving into another. We closed out the week by studying the natural resources found in the United States and reading some articles.
Plant Sale Update: We are beginning to see our seeds sprouting! We are continuing to mist the seeds and are excited to see more growth!
