Week of April 8 to 12

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we learned about King Asa- a king of Judah. We are learning about how he obeyed God. However, as is the tale with previous kings, there were times in which he disobeyed God.

Math: We have been busy in math class! We practiced using the metric system to convert units of weight. We then started to study the U.S. Customary Units System to convert units of distance and weight.

Reading: This week, we read a handful of myths and legends. These types of stories are usually full of unusual and interesting settings. We talked about how the setting can stir up emotion within the reader. We also focused on how character dialogue and sequences of action allow us to understand a character better.

Social Studies: We talked about the physical items that immigrants took with them from their home countries when they came to the United States. The kids thought about what they would pack in a trunk if they were immigrating to a new country. That was a hard thing to think about! What would be taken and what would be left behind? The students also did their informal presentations about how their family members came to America. Thank you so much, parents, for assisting your students in completing this homework assignment. I hope that it spurred some interesting conversations about your family. It certainly was an enriching activity for the classroom. Take a look at the below picture. We marked the countries our relatives came from. It's really neat to see the final product!

Plant Sale Update: Our plant sale is coming up on May 22. Our students got to work on planting the seeds this week. Our class is responsible for germinating pepper seeds and taking care of them until they become strong, young plants. I will give some weekly updates about the work we do in the greenhouse each week.

Snack Volunteer?

On April 26, the 4th grade students will be getting together to celebrate the end of the Personal Expertise Writing unit. The 4th grade team usually celebrates with food as well! It's our class' turn to provide the snacks and drinks for the celebration. If you are willing to provide a snack and drink for 51 excited 4th grade students, please email me and you and I will communicate. Thank you!!
