Week of September 3 to 6

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: We finished up unit 1! We are looking forward to next week when we start studying the book of Judges.

Math: We learned the place values of numbers up to millions as well as comparing them and rounding to a given place value.

Grammar: We reviewed the Spanish preterite past tense in addition to examples of synonym and antonym pairs. 

Science: The students finished their posters detailing how our celery and food dye experiment worked. We switched gears and starting thinking about our own human bodies, and how they are designed to allow us to grow and survive. We are in the middle of learning how to take our pulse and calculate our beats per minute. We will be investigating how exercise affects our pulse rates.

Sorry about having no photos this week! It's been an incredibly busy week of learning. 

Think! Energy with SEMCO:

Our class will be participating in Think! Energy with SEMCO and receiving free energy efficiency kits. Please take a minute to review the about the program (it's the blue piece of paper sent home with your child) and let me know if you do NOT want a kit. I will order a kit for you unless I hear from you. Please opt-out if you do not need the kit products pictured.

  4. Help Wanted: Rose Park is seeking a nurturing and caring part-time aide for our After School Care program. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied David's desire to build a temple for God. We talked about how God sometimes says "no" as an answer to our desires. Just like David, we cannot allow that to make us feel bitter. God's will and plan is always good and perfect.  Math:  The students finished up their Unit 3 tests this week. We have started Unit 4 which is all about algebra. We started off by simplifying like expressions. I am including some practice exercises. If your student wishes to practice simplifying like expressions, s/he can complete this page and turn it in. I will provide feedback. Week of August 26 to 29

What We Learned this Week Bible : We are kicking off our Bible class by understanding how Scripture interprets Scripture. We are studying the book of Philippians to do so. We investigated the events that took place during Paul's second missionary journey along with the people he met. Ultimately, we learned that Paul's primary focus was to know Christ even more- which should be our motive as well.  This unit is very short, so the students will be taking a quiz over the material we have learned thus far late next week. However, it is quite possible that the quiz will be pushed to early the following week. The students will be given a hard copy of the study guide, and I am including a digital copy of the study guide here as well. I also like to include links to a gamified version of the study guide. Week of September 16 to 20

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished up our study on the flawed prophet Samson. We are now studying another story that took place during the time of Israel's judges- the story of Ruth. We have read up on how Ruth and Naomi traveled back to Bethlehem and how Ruth met Boaz.  The students will be taking the Judges and Ruth Test early in the week of September 30 to October 4. I will be providing the students a physical copy of the Spanish study guide on Monday. I am providing an electronic version of the Spanish study guide here . I am also including an English study guide for parent use only. Feel free to use this resource to support your student.  Additionally, I have made a Blooket using the test questions.
