Week of January 27 to 31

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We concluded our unit on King Solomon this week. The students took the test, and we are looking forward to learning about the divided kingdom. Math:  The students practiced writing out equations to solve word problems. Reading:  This week, the students took time to think about the sections of their non-fiction books and what that particular section was teaching them. Then, they rehearsed how they would teach that information using an appropriate teaching voice and vocabulary to a classmate. The students concluded their lesson by actually teaching a partner new information they learned from reading their books.  Writing:  The students are researching their persuasive topics and are finding appropriate research articles to support their ideas. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  T he King Solomon Test has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 30.  Here are the links to the  English  and  Spanish   study guides. The English study guide is for the parents to help guide their students, and the hard copy of the Spanish study guide will be sent home on Friday (January 24). Week of January 13 to 17

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have been studying King Solomon this week! We learned about the origin of his famous wisdom and the extent of his wealth. We even saw how much the Queen of Sheba was impressed with his kingdom. We will soon learn about his shortcomings as king of Israel. This is a short unit, so the test is scheduled for Thursday, January 23. Here are the links to the English and Spanish study guides. Week of January 6 to 10

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied David's last years as king. We learned about the prophet Nathan's reminder to David to name Solomon as the next king of Israel. The students took the test over King David, and we look forward to our next unit of study- King Solomon.  Math:  We are starting to study simple algebra. The students learned how to combine like-terms as well as substituting values in a given algebraic expression. We also have learned how to write equations using the "equals sign" and the "is not equal to" sign. We used all of this knowledge in order to write algebraic equations in order to solve an unknown value.  Reading:   We are taking some time to identify main ideas and supporting details of texts.  Writing:  The students brainstormed and wrote down some reasons to back up their persuasive claim statements.
