What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week, we studied David's last years as king. We learned about the prophet Nathan's reminder to David to name Solomon as the next king of Israel. The students took the test over King David, and we look forward to our next unit of study- King Solomon.
Math: We are starting to study simple algebra. The students learned how to combine like-terms as well as substituting values in a given algebraic expression. We also have learned how to write equations using the "equals sign" and the "is not equal to" sign. We used all of this knowledge in order to write algebraic equations in order to solve an unknown value.
Reading: We are taking some time to identify main ideas and supporting details of texts.
Writing: The students brainstormed and wrote down some reasons to back up their persuasive claim statements.
Social Studies: We are now starting our social studies unit. To kick it off, we learned how to describe the location of the United States of America. We also took a look at some of the major natural landforms found in the country.
Spelling: Here is the link to next week's spelling list!
PJ Day (Tuesday, January 14)
The students have earned a PJ Day! Please plan on your student coming to school on Tuesday, January 14 in their pajamas! They are also allowed to bring a stuffed animal OR a blanket OR a pillow. However, the item needs to be able to fit in their backpack- nothing bigger than that, please!
Greenhouse Activity (Friday, January 17)
On Friday, January 17 the students will be doing some work in the greenhouse! We have been asked to shovel the dirt from the garden beds. Please send a digging shovel with round nose / round point to school with your child if you have it! It might be wise to label your shovel, too. 😁
From the Spanish Department:
Año Nuevo- Happy New Year

We are partnering with Good Ink to bring you sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, etc that you can purchase for yourself or your child. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring awareness about our program to the community and sport some fun HC gear! The store will open on January 17 and close on February 2. *Orders ship 2-3 weeks after the store closes. This also serves as a fundraiser for books for our classrooms and libraries!
