Week of March 17 to 21

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: The chapter 13 test over Elisha is scheduled for March 25. I am providing the English study guide here so the parents can help support their student's studying. I am also including the Spanish study guide here for the students. The students have already received their physical copies. Additionally, I am providing the links to some Blooket games that the students can play to prepare for their test:

Tower Defense 2

Monster Brawl

Tower Defense

Cafe

Factory

Crazy Kingdom

Math: We are officially studying fractions! This week, we learned how to add unit fractions in addition to comparing them. We also learned how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

Reading: This week, we talked about the titles of books and how they can sometimes give insight to the greater themes found in a book. We also talked about repeated objects in chapter books and why the author might use them in his or her book. They could symbolize something, and it was fun having discussions with the students talking about what some of the repeated objects in the books we have read could represent.

Social Studies: We have officially started our government unit! We have been talking about the purpose of government and the different branches in our own government. We ended the week by distinguishing the differences between federal and state governments and what powers are unique to each and what powers are shared by each.

Spelling: Here is the link to next week's spelling list!

From the Office:

  1. TULIP TIME is coming! 1st through 4th grade parents - please fill out this google form to indicate your students participation and attire for the Kinderparade on May 9th.

  2. Swimming Lessons Our Holland Aquatic Center is providing swim lessons for us again this year! I recognize this program is new for some children and families. Because our children are blessed to be raised in Michigan, surrounded by bodies of water, we believe this safety instruction is a blessing that we pray they will never need but feel responsible to equip them. If you find yourself pondering over the “why” of lessons, please take a listen to HC mom Jenny White on the why for swim safety. HCAC Swim School welcome video will help you understand a bit about the logistics. Our 1st-4th graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of April 14-25.

  • 9-10am: 1st Grade

  • 10-11am: 4th Grade

  • 11am-12pm: 2nd Grade

  • 12:35-1:35pm: 3rd Grade

  • March is Reading Month!

    • March 28- Flashlight read- students bring in flashlights from home to read in their classrooms in the dark
