What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied the love story of Ruth and Boaz. This story is also a love letter from God to us. He sent Jesus to become our Redeemer- just as Boaz was the kinsman-redeemer to Ruth. The Judges and Ruth test is scheduled for Thursday, October 2. I am including the English study guide here . This is for the parents to help support their student's studying. I am including the Spanish study guide here . The students have already received their physical copies. Additionally, I am including a link to the Blooket review games here . The questions are modeled after the questions on the actual test. Happy studying! Math:  We have started unit 2 this week! We reviewed matrixes in addition to mental math multiplication. Some of the types of mental math multiplication we have studied is the following: 6 x 70, 6 x 700, 60 x 70. These types of mental math multiplication problems might be a great idea to review as part of their math log homework! Rea...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we talked about how God used women to orchestrate His plan. We studied the story of Israel's female judge Deborah and how she prophesied that Israel's victory would be guaranteed through a woman named Jael. We concluded our week with our study of Israel's physically strongest judge- Samson. We studied the special vows a Nazarene would make and the temptations that eventually led to Samson's downfall and death. However, we talked about the strength, power, and life there is by inviting God back into our hearts.  Math:  We have finished unit 1. The students have already taken the unit 1 test, and they will correct their tests early next week. *We will be doing multiplication and division in unit 2 of math. The students are encouraged to review basic multiplication and division facts as part of their homework at home.* Reading:  We have been talking about ways in which good readers develop and continuously work on good fluen...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished our unit and have started a new unit centered around Israel's judges. We studied the story of the left-handed judge Ehud; we look forward to learning about more of Israel's judges.  Math:  We reviewed subtraction with regrouping and the circumstances that call for it (0's and when the top digit in a column is smaller than the bottom digit in that same column). We also learned how we can check our subtraction problems by performing an addition problem. Lastly, we worked on identifying errors in subtraction problems and how to use estimation to check for reasonableness within a subtraction problem. Reading:  This week, we talked about strong reading habits and how 4th graders can cultivate strong reading habits at home. Writing:  We analyzed a "boring" introduction to a story about kites. We brainstormed different ideas of how to improve the introduction by using action, dialogue, sounds, and thoughts. The studen...

Week of September 2 to 5

What We Learned this Week: Bible:   We became Egyptian scribes and tried our hand at writing out an Old Testament Bible story in hieroglyphics! We learned that it is hard to do! We also studied how the modern alphabet eventually came to be as picture writing slowly started to change and morph through-out the course of time. There will be a test on this unit during the week of September 8 to 12. It will most likely be on September 11. In order to allow sufficient study time, I am including the link to the digital copy of the Spanish study guide  here . The students have already received their physical copies. Additionally, I am including the link to the digital copy of the English study guide  here . The English study guide is meant for the parents to help guide their student's studying. I am also providing the  link  to Blooket online games the students can play at home if you choose to let them play. The game questions are very similar to the ones the students ...
