Week of September 15 to 19
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week, we talked about how God used women to orchestrate His plan. We studied the story of Israel's female judge Deborah and how she prophesied that Israel's victory would be guaranteed through a woman named Jael. We concluded our week with our study of Israel's physically strongest judge- Samson. We studied the special vows a Nazarene would make and the temptations that eventually led to Samson's downfall and death. However, we talked about the strength, power, and life there is by inviting God back into our hearts.
Math: We have finished unit 1. The students have already taken the unit 1 test, and they will correct their tests early next week. *We will be doing multiplication and division in unit 2 of math. The students are encouraged to review basic multiplication and division facts as part of their homework at home.*
Reading: We have been talking about ways in which good readers develop and continuously work on good fluency. Students are definitely encouraged to try reading from their Spanish books out-loud at home to work on their fluency. Focus areas should be reading with feeling and emotion and reading confidently.
Writing: The students were introduced to the main writing project for this realistic fiction unit. They will be planning, developing, and writing their very own devotional story complete with a "heart message." By the end of the writing project, each student will receive a devotional booklet with each of their classmates' stories included. This week, the students thought carefully about their heart message and selected one. Soon, they will be developing a plan for their story before writing out their exciting introductions.
Science: The students have been working on a formal, hand-written report about pumpkins. The report is structured in the following manner: claim, evidence, reasoning. The very last portion of the report calls the students to write from the Christian worldview lens how God perfectly designed the pumpkin plant to survive, grow, and reproduce. It is my hope that the students understand and realize the Perfect Creator and Sustainer of life that God is.
