What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have started the King David unit this week. We learned that Saul's family grew weaker and weaker as David's family and fame only grew and became stronger. We saw Jerusalem become David's capital, and we studied the story of David bringing the ark of the covenant back to Jerusalem with much celebration. The King David test will happen sometime in the mid to late week of January 12 to 16. To provide ample study time, I am providing the English study guide here . This study guide is meant for the parents to help support and guide their student's learning. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  The students reviewed for the King Saul test and took the test. Next week, we look forward to starting the King David unit.  Math:  We reviewed for the Unit 3 Division Test this week, and the students took the test. Next week, we will start Unit 4 which deals with equations and word problems.  Reading:  This week, we used a web chart and an idea / detail chart to describe the topic of our non-fiction books. We provided details about its characteristics; those details included adjectives and other words / phrases that describe. Writing:  The students shared their planning (a table of contents containing chapters) for their literary non-fiction book with a small group. They practiced using a teaching voice as they shared their ideas. We ended the week by focusing on one chapter and developing ways to describe the main idea. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  T his week, in Bible we learned how David, his men, and their families fled to Philistia to get away from King Saul. David earned King Achish's trust and was assigned to live in the city of Ziklag. While living there, David carried out raids and eventually destroyed the Amalekites. We also studied the story of King Saul and the witch of Endor. Saul wanted to know the outcome of the upcoming battle with the Philistines, so he consulted the witch. During the consultation with the witch, Saul learned that God had definitely cut him off and that he and his sons would die in battle the next day. King Saul and his sons did indeed die during Israel's battle with the Philistines, and David and the Israelites mourned the deaths of King Saul and Jonathan.
