Week of December 15 to 19

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: We have started the King David unit this week. We learned that Saul's family grew weaker and weaker as David's family and fame only grew and became stronger. We saw Jerusalem become David's capital, and we studied the story of David bringing the ark of the covenant back to Jerusalem with much celebration.

The King David test will happen sometime in the mid to late week of January 12 to 16. To provide ample study time, I am providing the English study guide here. This study guide is meant for the parents to help support and guide their student's learning. I am providing the Spanish study guide here, and the students will get their hard copy on Monday, January 5. Lastly, here is the link to some Blooket test review games.

Math: This week, we began our new unit. The students simplified expressions, determined if two equations were equal to each other or not, solved for an unknown variable in an equation, wrote related subtraction and addition equations, wrote out and solved equations given a word problem (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication), and wrote related multiplication and division equations.

I encourage the students to review their basic math facts over the break- addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Additionally, if your student needs a refresher on 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication, 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication, adding and subtracting large numbers, and long division, I think it is wise to have them review over Christmas break. The students will be taking the Math MAP NWEA Test in the second week of January, and the refresher over the break would benefit them.

Reading: This week, the students used diagrams such as a flow chart, a timeline, and a cycle chart to visually organize information from their non-fiction texts that occur in a chronological order. They also used comparative diagrams such as a Venn diagram and a three column chart to visually organize information from their non-fiction texts that compare and contrast two things.

Just like with math, I encourage the students to continue reading during the Christmas break. They will be taking the Reading MAP NWEA Test in the first week of January. Maintaining good reading habits during the break would benefit them.

Spelling: Here is the link to the spelling list for the week of January 5 to 9!

December Progress Update

Parents, I have sent home the Progress Update for the month of December with your student today. Please take a look at it when you have a chance during the Christmas break, sign it, and return it to school with your student on Monday, January 5. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our students' education journey successful!

Dear Families,

My heart feels truly full after these past few busy weeks. The students have worked so hard this quarter, and they truly deserve this upcoming break!

I wanted to send a very special and humble thank you to each and every one of you. You have all shared your unique talents and time to make this month of December so special for our students. From the creative energy put into the door decoration contest and the thoughtful Christmas party planning, to the time spent purchasing and wrapping gifts and leading classroom activities—I feel incredibly blessed.

It was such a pleasure to see the smiles on the students' faces and hear their laughter throughout the week; that, in itself, was a beautiful gift.

I pray that you have a restful and blessed Christmas break. May we all remember that Jesus' birth is the greatest gift we could ever receive.

From my family to yours, Feliz Navidad!

Warmly,

Hannah
