Week of January 17 to 20

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we studied the story of Abigail, Nabal, and David. We used Proverbs 15:1 to help guide our learning as we navigated the story. Good conversation starters at the dinner table can be held using this verse: 
- Why must we be careful with the words we say?
- How are gentle answers and harsh words different?
- Why is it easier to speak harshly rather than gently? 
- How can a person cultivate a happy heart?




Math: The students are applying their excellent reading comprehension skills to break down math word problems and taking the time to really think about what the problem is asking them to do. Even though we are currently studying division, it doesn't necessarily mean that all the word problems we solve require strictly division! 

Writing: The students are working hard on their persuasive essays! We plan on finishing up with the final draft by Friday, January 27. We will be joining the other 4th grade sections for a fun celebration on that day!

Social Studies: We have started a brand-new unit in Social Studies which focuses on human geography. Specifically, we talked about the different types of relationships humans have with the earth and also with each other. We wrapped up our week by talking about the importance of taking care of the Earth. We also talked about how this is one of God's instructions for us as Christians.

HC K-6 Boys and Girls Volleyball Opportunity

Whether you are brand new to the sport of volleyball or have been playing for some time, this clinic is for you!  Led by the high school coaches and mentored by Holland Christian varsity volleyball players, kids will have 3 fun and active sessions learning the game of volleyball and focusing on improving foundational skills.  We work hard to coach every level and look forward to helping you grow in the game of volleyball while you also challenge yourself physically, and engage in fun and memorable games and activities.

When: March 11, 18 and 25
K- 2nd 8:00-9:20am, 3rd-6th 9:30-10:50am

A new company, EdConnect Immersive Travel, (owned by Amanda Cisneros and Kelsey Wilson, two educators with kids in Spanish Immersion) is offering family trips to Spain in June of 2023 and Costa Rica in 2024. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied David's desire to build a temple for God. We talked about how God sometimes says "no" as an answer to our desires. Just like David, we cannot allow that to make us feel bitter. God's will and plan is always good and perfect.  Math:  The students finished up their Unit 3 tests this week. We have started Unit 4 which is all about algebra. We started off by simplifying like expressions. I am including some practice exercises. Week of August 26 to 29

What We Learned this Week Bible : We are kicking off our Bible class by understanding how Scripture interprets Scripture. We are studying the book of Philippians to do so. We investigated the events that took place during Paul's second missionary journey along with the people he met. Ultimately, we learned that Paul's primary focus was to know Christ even more- which should be our motive as well.  This unit is very short, so the students will be taking a quiz over the material we have learned thus far late next week. However, it is quite possible that the quiz will be pushed to early the following week. The students will be given a hard copy of the study guide, and I am including a digital copy of the study guide here as well. I also like to include links to a gamified version of the study guide. Week of September 16 to 20

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished up our study on the flawed prophet Samson. We are now studying another story that took place during the time of Israel's judges- the story of Ruth. We have read up on how Ruth and Naomi traveled back to Bethlehem and how Ruth met Boaz.  The students will be taking the Judges and Ruth Test early in the week of September 30 to October 4. I will be providing the students a physical copy of the Spanish study guide on Monday. I am providing an electronic version of the Spanish study guide here . I am also including an English study guide for parent use only. Feel free to use this resource to support your student.  Additionally, I have made a Blooket using the test questions.
