Week of September 11 to 15

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we took some time to review what we studied in Unit 1. The students took their quiz, and they all did quite well. Wonderful job, 4th graders! We look forward to start studying judges next week.

Math: We have moved on to adding large numbers (up to 6 digits) with and without regrouping. They are doing a good job! Ask them to show off their skills (in addition to NAMING) the place values. :))

Reading: We have been spending some time this week talking about how we know when books are a good fit for us. Just a reminder. The students should be reading chapter books at school during reading time. Graphic novels, comic books, and picture books are not allowed. Thanks for understanding!

Writing: The students have started to think about their own characters for their upcoming realistic fiction story. We have been doing the same for our own class example. Looking forward to seeing the students' ideas come to life and flourish!

Science: The students studied the inside of the celery after it had been sitting in the dyed water for a few days. They then inputted that information onto their posters. We will be re-visiting the posters next week.

Grammar: We reviewed the imperfect tense again, and then the students interviewed their partner asking him / her questions utilizing imperfect tense verbs. We also talked about the Spanish letters "v" ("v" de "vaca") and "b" ("b" de "burro.") In Spanish, these two letters sound the same, so we brainstormed Spanish words containing the letters "v" and "b." We concluded the class by writing really fun tongue twisters containing the letters "v" and "b."

Parents, I am also going to be starting to include the following week's spelling test in the blog. The students receive their hard copy versions on Monday.

From the Spanish Immersion Department:

Hispanic Heritage Month

We are excited to be able to offer once again an experience for our Rose Park friends in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month! On Friday, September 29th, we will be teaching our friends about six new countries—Bolivia, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay.  Your child will work in a small group to learn about and then present a specific country to their Rose Park peers.

We would love your assistance with some items that will be made special for that day. We will have 3 food stations and 3 game/activity stations for ALL Rose Park students to participate in!

Please see this sign-up link for some items we need to put together for this event. Thank you for being an important part of our Spanish Immersion community at Rose Park!
