Week of October 2 to 6

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we talked about the death of Samson. The students worked on a concluding activity that asked them to select one major character from Samson's story and draw 5 objects that made them think of this character. The students really enjoyed it.

Math: We took some time to review for and take the chapter one test.

Reading: This week, we talked about how good readers do not rush through the words on the page to just make it to the next page. Good readers take the time to slowly read the words on the pages and truly comprehend what they are reading.

Writing: The students were excited to work on their realistic fiction stories this week. We took this week to simply get our stories from the story maps onto their Google Documents. Next week, we will be talking about specific parts of good writing such as dialogue, indents and paragraphs, and transition words.

Science: The students worked hard this week to conduct research on a pumpkin plant to provide evidence to explain its growth, survival techniques, and reproduction process. Then, they write a formal scientific paper to report on their findings.

Next Week's Spelling List

Grandparents Day:

Grandparents Day was so much! It was such a blessing to meet and converse with our students' grandparents and see them interact with their grandchildren. God has been good and faithful throughout all generations.

From the Office:

  • From Parent Board: The parent board would love for you to take a look at this link - Sign Up Genius

  • An Invitation: Rose Park Fall Festival! Take a peek here for the exciting details! Thank you to our parent team for helping us celebrate our beautiful new playscape and ranch! Please sign up for your family to attend!

  • Safety and Security - Holland Christian is implementing consistent security measures for all K-12 students. (Preschool will continue their drop off and pick up as previously notified). Now that school has been underway for six weeks, we are asking parent/student drop off and good-bye to take place at the front door. By October 9, we hope that all children will be able to navigate their way from the front door to their classroom. Teachers and staff will be readily available to support and cheer our independent students to their lockers and classrooms. This measure is important so that we do not have unknown or unexpected visitors accessing our buildings. This safety measure is consistent throughout all of our buildings. You’re still welcome inside as needed, please stop in at the office for a check in and name badge. Thank you for your understanding. If you have questions or concerns, please connect with Miska at mrynsburger@hollandchristian.org or Katelyn at kroskamp@hollandchristian.org

  • Photo retakes are October 25 - if your child will need retakes add that date to your calendar.
