Week of November 20 and 21

What We Learned this Week:

Math: The students were introduced to multiplying a four digit number by a single digit number. I recommend the students practice a bit of multiplication over the Thanksgiving break.

Writing: We practiced writing our opinions into claim statements. We look forward to continuing refining our thinking before we start planning out our persuasive writing. 

Spelling Class: 

Spelling class has changed slightly. There are now two spelling lists. When you click on the link, you will see two pages. Please carefully check for your student's name at the bottom of the document. That will be the list your student will study. The spelling test itself will now consist of those 13 words instead of 10 words. If you have any questions, please let me know.

  • Maroon and White Shop at Rose Park: Save the dates for December 13 + 14 - The Maroon and White Shop will be present Wednesday (at pick-up), and Thursday morning. If you desire to grab any HC gear for presents this year, make  a note to stop by!


  • Mocha & Merch Open House: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 29 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. You are invited to The Maroon and White Shop’s Second annual Mocha and Merch Christmas Open House!  Come browse our new store at HCHS while enjoying the provided refreshments, listening to Christmas music and start your Christmas shopping!  We will have the latest HC gear available, and the first 15 people to make a purchase will receive a complimentary gift!  Each item bought directly supports the Special Olympics Unified Sports program at the high school.  It’s an event you won’t want to miss!


  • Kinder Dutch Dance registration is now open! All 3rd-5th grade students are invited to join us. See the attached flyer for more information, then head to http://www.tuliptime.com/getinvolved/dutch-dance to sign up your child! Practice is held on Wednesdays in the gym during lunch recess starting February 21st. Email dutchdancenicolejohnson@gmail.com with questions regarding practice, performances and costumes. Lost and found table: We have a lost and found table near the office, and it’s overflowing with items. If your students are missing something have them check the lost and found or feel free to stop in to check as well!

What We Learned this Week Bible : We are kicking off our Bible class by understanding how Scripture interprets Scripture. We are studying the book of Philippians to do so. We investigated the events that took place during Paul's second missionary journey along with the people he met. Ultimately, we learned that Paul's primary focus was to know Christ even more- which should be our motive as well.  This unit is very short, so the students will be taking a quiz over the material we have learned thus far late next week. However, it is quite possible that the quiz will be pushed to early the following week. The students will be given a hard copy of the study guide, and I am including a digital copy of the study guide here as well. I also like to include links to a gamified version of the study guide. Week of September 16 to 20

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished up our study on the flawed prophet Samson. We are now studying another story that took place during the time of Israel's judges- the story of Ruth. We have read up on how Ruth and Naomi traveled back to Bethlehem and how Ruth met Boaz.  The students will be taking the Judges and Ruth Test early in the week of September 30 to October 4. I will be providing the students a physical copy of the Spanish study guide on Monday. I am providing an electronic version of the Spanish study guide here . I am also including an English study guide for parent use only. Feel free to use this resource to support your student.  Additionally, I have made a Blooket using the test questions. Week of October 7 to 11

What We Have Learned this Week: Bible:  We have moved on to the Samuel unit. We studied how God called him during the night and the significance of his conversation with God. Later, we learned of how the Israelites angered God and the attack of the Philistines which led to the capture of the ark of the covenant. We also saw Samuel acting on Israel's behalf and asking God to remember the Israelites before another battle against the Philistine army. We will be finishing this unit soon, and we will be testing over this unit on Tuesday, October 15. A paper study guide was sent home with the students on Thursday, October 10.
