Week of November 27 to December 1

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we have been studying how Saul disobeyed God which led to God abandoning him. Israel's king narrative is now turned towards David. We learned about David's success due to God being with him. We will continue the story next week!

Math: The students have reached the end of chapter two! This week consisted of the students taking a practice test and checking their work. They were instructed to take their practice test home in order to study and prepare for the actual test on Monday, December 4.

Reading: This week, we paid close attention to how other characters treat the main characters in our books and what that means. We also studied the significance of the objects, people, or places that our main character holds dear and what it could possibly symbolize. Finally, we ended the week by considering the theories we previously had about characters and how those theories evolved and changed throughout the course of the book.

Writing: The students solidified their topic for their persuasive essays. They thought of reasons to back up their claim statements and have begun to put their ideas into a colorful graphic organizer.

Please consider signing up to help out with our classroom Christmas party on Thursday, December 21. I have two more slots available to lead a game, craft, or activity.

Kids Have Rights Presentation

On Friday, December 8, the Child's Advocacy Center will be sending a presenter over to talk to our class about the "rights" they have to keep themselves safe. I have seen this program before (last year), and I support everything they teach. Nothing is inappropriate; nothing is controversial. They are simply teaching the kids how to keep themselves safe and who their safe adults are. There is no video content in the presentations they do at Rose Park. You are welcome to sit in the back of the room and listen in while they are here, if you desire. Please connect with me if you wish to do that.

Spanish Immersion Christmas Program Songs

We have been practicing the songs we will be singing during our Christmas program. The students have requested that I share the links on the blog so that they can practice at home on their own time. Here they are!

"Es Navidad"

"Noche de Paz" (play at 1.25 speed)

From Mrs. Winningham

Mrs. Winningham has been leading us in the memorization of Bible verses via song, dance, and art. She has a request for the parents. Please send in empty oat containers (with their lids!). She can accept them through Wednesday, December 13. They will be used for the music portion of Bible memorization.

From the Office:

  • Maroon and White Shop at Rose Park: Save the dates for December 13 + 14 - The Maroon and White Shop will be present Wednesday (at pick-up), and Thursday morning. If you desire to grab any HC gear for presents this year, make  a note to stop by!

I am sorry about not having any photos to provide this week. It has been a fast (and busy!) week. I will try to do better next week!
