Week of January 29 to February 2
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We have finished studying King Saul's reign and have begun our study on King David's reign. We just completed our study of the ark of the covenant's arrival to the City of David.
Math: The students prepared for the chapter 3 unit test this week. The students will finish the tests next week and then we will begin chapter 4.
Reading: We have been using graphic organizers in order to visualize the information we are reading in our non-fiction texts. This week, we specifically looked at cause & effect, problem & solution and chronological order of events.
Grammar: The students reviewed the Spanish conditional tense. This tense is used to talk about hypothetical situations or possible future events. We also talked about how a special mark called a "dieresis" (two little dots placed above the letter u) alerts the speaker to pronounce the letter u's name.
Writing: The students are working hard on their persuasive essays still! We really focused on the structure of the essay this week.
Social Studies: The students were really pleased to start a Google Slides project to show off their knowledge of what they have learned so far- location and physical characteristics of the United States of America. I am really impressed at how quickly they learn how to navigate a new app such as Google Slides. They look forward to continuing and finishing the project next week.
Hemlock Crossings Nature Center Field Trip (February 9):
We are so excited to go on our field trip to the Hemlock Crossings Nature Center on Friday, February 9. Half of the field trip will be inside the main building on the campus, and the other half will be outside. The students should dress appropriately for when they are inside the building AND outside! Layers might be a good idea.
The students will be eating lunch at school before heading to the nature center. There is no need for the students to take their lunches with them. :)
Friendship Day Celebration (February 14):
Friendship Day (Valentine's Day) is coming up on Wednesday, February 14! I like to celebrate the friendships that God has blessed us with. If your child would like to bring in goodies to share with the class, that is acceptable! Please make sure that ALL students receive one. Take a look at the list of the students in our class. We have a few allergies, so please take note of that. I have some bags that the students can decorate and use to store their goodies and take them home. I will be doing this celebration at the end of the day since I don't want 14 kiddos to experience a sugar rush at one time. 😵
