Week of February 26 to March 1
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We finished up the King David unit! The students took the test, and we look forward to starting the King Solomon unit next week.
Math: The students continued to write and solve equations. This week, they wrote and solved equations with two unknown values in addition to writing equations in conjunction with viewing a pictograph.
Reading: We spent some time thinking about life lessons from the chapter books we have read. We also thought about characters' strong emotions and choices and considered what kinds of lessons about life we could learn from those characters in those moments.
Writing: The students are working hard on their personal expertise essays!
Social Studies: We have started our government lessons! We talked about the U.S. Constitution and the basic principles our country was founded upon. We also have spent some time understanding the differences between the federal and the state governments and some examples of what each government does for the people. We also had great class discussions talking about what would happen if these governments were to have some of the other one's powers.
Lansing Field Trip Information:
The big day is right around the corner! On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, all fourth graders will travel to Lansing to tour the state capitol building and the Impressions 5 Science Museum. The following is information that will be helpful for you.
Students must be at school by 7:00 AM. If your child is sick that day, please let me know by e-mail by 6:30 AM that morning. We plan to return back to school in time for students to catch the bus home at the end of the school day.
Each student attending needs a completely disposable bag lunch with a beverage (labeled with their name). Also, pack two extra snacks in their backpack that we will eat mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
Students may bring a backpack with quiet entertainment (books, drawing, etc. – NO electronics, phones, or smart watches of any type per Holland Christian policy) for the bus ride. Backpacks and their contents will be left on the bus during the tours of the museum and the capitol building. Teachers are not responsible for any student items that are lost or left behind. No pillows or blankets as the bus will be FULL of students.
We are looking forward to a fun and informative day. Please keep us in your prayers as we plan for and travel there!
Sincerely,
Mrs. VanderZwaag

From the Office:
Sharing Our Gifts: Park Township approached Rose Park several weeks ago requesting HELP from the creative thinking our students are becoming well known for! Park Township is in the brainstorming stage of designing a community center near the property of the Park Township office. Our Rose Park kids, at their request, have been engaging in a design thinking process developing a community center that children and families might get excited about visiting! You are invited to the township open house with your child if you’d like to share in the process. Details of this event can be found HERE!
PT Conference Meal: Our gracious parent board is organizing meals for our teachers during parent/teacher conference evenings. If you’re able and willing to contribute to the yummies, THANK YOU and please check this link!
Reading Blizzard - Our readers are rocketing! We're celebrating the blossoming growth we are tracking in our readers! Thank you for supporting these efforts at home! On March 14 we'll be celebrating reading throughout our building. We'll be setting up reading/learning forts for a special fun event on March 14th. Please send a spare sheet or towel with your child on the 14th and we'll take care of the rest!
Girls Running Club for 3rd-5th grade girls is back this spring. We will meet Tuesday and Thursday after school from about 3:20- 4:45.
Practices will start March 5, and we will run the Tulip Time 5K as our final event. To sign up please email Kim Hekman at hekmanfamily2006@gmail.com including your daughter's Name, Teacher, a contact email address and phone number to reach you. Coaches are Kim Hekman and Tim Diekema, but we would love to have more join us. We would prefer for each coach to be responsible for no more than 10 girls as we will take the girls off school campus to run.
Kinderparade: It’s time to think about Tulip Time! First through fourth grade families, please complete this form to indicate your family’s preference for costumes during our Kinderparade on Thursday, May 9.
TTQ: It’s almost springtime and your boys might LOVE training and running together with the support of a coach team! OR! Would you be interested in joining the coach team? First hand, it’s a BLAST if you’re curious and available to join the fun!
