Week of May 13 to 17
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: This week, we studied the story of King Ahab and his disobedience to God. The Lord provided the Israelites with a victory over Syria and its leader Ben-Hadad. However, King Ahab disobeyed God when he chose to allow Ben-Hadad to live. We also discussed the importance of property owning in the Old Testament and how / when the Israelites could obtain land. That connected to our story of King Ahab and Naboth's vineyard.
Math: We have been learning how to multiply whole numbers by unit fractions and proper fractions this week.
Reading: We are continuing forward with the book "Number the Stars." The students are fascinated by this story. It's so wonderful to see. They also continue to read their historical fiction chapter books with their groups.
Writing: The students are working on their faith writing pieces this week. They are writing about how people or things have helped them to grow their faith.
Rabbit River Preserve Field Trip (Thursday, May 23):
On Thursday, May 23, the 4th grade sections will be going to the Rabbit River preserve in the morning. We are planning on eating our sack lunches there. Please send a labeled disposable lunch with your student to school on that day. I could still use two more volunteers for this field trip! If you would like to sign up to chaperone, I am including the link to the sign-up here.
Plant Sale Update:
The students have worked hard to create wonderful posters to advertise the upcoming plant sale on May 22. They also folded 148 brochures to send out to the Spanish Immersion classes advertising the sale. We also transplanted half the seedlings to bigger plastic pots. We will transplant the other half next week before the sale.
The "work" schedule for the plant sale is ready! Please take a look at it here. If your child's shift is an early one, PLEASE make sure he / she arrives to school on time to make it to their shift.
2. If you have any boxes laying around that we could use to package up our customers' purchases, we will gladly accept those anytime. Thank you!
From the Office:
Holland Christian Schools has two scholarships that we would love to have you take a look at if your family qualifies, for this upcoming year:
The Hendershot Family Fund Scholarship was established to assist families who demonstrate financial need through completing a Tuition Grant Fund application and also have a child who qualifies for Educational Support Services (ESS) at Holland Christian Schools. If your family meets these two requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Hendershot Family Fund application form until May 17.
The Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship was established to assist families who currently work in law enforcement and are enrolled at HC in K-12th grade. If your family meets these requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship application form until May 17.
