Week of May 6 to 10

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we talked about what it means to be called by God and how we, as Christians, are all called to love and serve God and others. We connected that to our recent field trip! We then read about Elisha's call and the obedient manner in which he responded to God.

Math: This week, we have been practicing adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. We then moved onto learning how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. We used that knowledge to add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators. If your student would like some extra practice with this concept, please click here. Answer keys are included!

Writing: The students have started to immerse themselves in literary essays. They will continue this work next week.

Grammar: This week, we studied the Spanish demonstrative pronouns in addition to consonant groups- "l" and "r."

Reading: We are making good progress in "Number the Stars." Some of the students were wondering if they could read the English version at home with family. It would be OK, but they can't read ahead and give spoilers!!

Plant Sale Update:

I'm sure you've heard - the PLANT SALE is coming soon! We've been preparing at school and are excited to see you May 22 starting at 7:30. Please spread the word to all your family, friends, neighbors, church people, etc.- we're hoping for a BIG crowd!

Each student will be assigned a "shift" to work, and I will need a student who can be to school on time on that Wednesday morning (7:50). If you are able to get your student dropped off by 7:50 on Wednesday, please let me know and I will plug them into the 7:50 to 8:10 time slot. Thank you!

Two other plant sale requests:
1.  Each child should bring a lawn chair or blanket to use that morning as their outdoor learning space while they are not "working" the plant sale.
2.  If you have any boxes laying around that we could use to package up our customers' purchases, we will gladly accept those anytime next week. Thank you!

I have to say that I am very proud of our students. They did an amazing job on Tuesday's field trip to Samaritas Senior Living of Grand Rapids. They sang their songs well and displayed wonderful patience and love while they chatted with the residents. They even used their Spanish with the many Spanish-speaking residents there. One gentleman was even teaching us a song he used to sing as a young boy growing up in Guatemala. I saw lots of smiles from the residents and students alike. One wonderful lady told me, "It's the smiles from the children that make it worth it." I hope your child was able to tell you all about their time there. I definitely saw Christ-like behavior, and my heart feels very full.

From the Spanish Immersion Team:
