Week of October 21 and 22

Well, it has been a short and sweet week!

Here's what we have been up to during these two days.

Bible: We are continuing to read and understand the story of how Saul was chosen to be the first King of Israel.

Math: We have started to examine Spanish story problems in detail. We are learning that some story problems can have too much or too little information. We, as mathematicians, have to be able to identify the information we need in order to solve the given question. 

Writing: The students are continuing on writing their realistic fiction stories. I'm excited to see the final product in a few weeks!

Reading: The students have been using empathy in order to make predictions about what will happen next in their chapter books.

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied David's desire to build a temple for God. We talked about how God sometimes says "no" as an answer to our desires. Just like David, we cannot allow that to make us feel bitter. God's will and plan is always good and perfect.  Math:  The students finished up their Unit 3 tests this week. We have started Unit 4 which is all about algebra. We started off by simplifying like expressions. I am including some practice exercises. If your student wishes to practice simplifying like expressions, s/he can complete this page and turn it in. I will provide feedback. Writing:  We are now officially finished with the Persuasive Essays. We look forward to next week when we move on to the Personal Expertise Essay. Week of August 26 to 29

What We Learned this Week Bible : We are kicking off our Bible class by understanding how Scripture interprets Scripture. We are studying the book of Philippians to do so. We investigated the events that took place during Paul's second missionary journey along with the people he met. Ultimately, we learned that Paul's primary focus was to know Christ even more- which should be our motive as well.  This unit is very short, so the students will be taking a quiz over the material we have learned thus far late next week. However, it is quite possible that the quiz will be pushed to early the following week. The students will be given a hard copy of the study guide, and I am including a digital copy of the study guide here as well. I also like to include links to a gamified version of the study guide. Week of September 16 to 20

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We have finished up our study on the flawed prophet Samson. We are now studying another story that took place during the time of Israel's judges- the story of Ruth. We have read up on how Ruth and Naomi traveled back to Bethlehem and how Ruth met Boaz.  The students will be taking the Judges and Ruth Test early in the week of September 30 to October 4. I will be providing the students a physical copy of the Spanish study guide on Monday. I am providing an electronic version of the Spanish study guide here . I am also including an English study guide for parent use only. Feel free to use this resource to support your student.  Additionally, I have made a Blooket using the test questions.
