Week of March 24 to 28

What We Learned this Week:

Math: This week, the students learned how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa. We used that knowledge to learn how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators. Finally, we worked on solving word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators.

Reading: We studied the symbolism of names of characters and places in our books in addition to investigating the symbolism of the settings of our stories.

Writing: The students planned out a chapter of their personal expertise essay and are starting to type it out.

Social Studies: We are currently studying the three branches of government, their jobs, and their checks on the other two branches. We have also been studying and identifying the powers of the federal and state governments.

Spelling: Here is the link to the next spelling test! Please note that the spelling test date is April 18.

*I will NOT be assigning any homework for the week of March 31 to April 3.*

Lansing Field Trip April 2, 2025:

We are getting excited for our upcoming field trip! Here is the document that was sent home with the students explaining some important information.

From the Office:

  1. TULIP TIME is coming! 1st through 4th grade parents - please fill out this google form to indicate your students participation and attire for the Kinderparade on May 8th.

  2. Swimming Lessons Our Holland Aquatic Center is providing swim lessons for us again this year! I recognize this program is new for some children and families. Because our children are blessed to be raised in Michigan, surrounded by bodies of water, we believe this safety instruction is a blessing that we pray they will never need but feel responsible to equip them. If you find yourself pondering over the “why” of lessons, please take a listen to HC mom Jenny White on the why for swim safety. HCAC Swim School welcome video will help you understand a bit about the logistics. Our 1st-4th graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of April 14-25.

  • 9-10am: 1st Grade
