Week of April 21 to 25
What We Have Learned this Week:
Bible: We have started our brand-new unit which is about the minor kings of Israel and Judah. This week, we have studied the king of Judah, King Jehoshaphat, who was considered to be a good king. We studied King Jehoram (another king of Judah). He was not a good king, and God struck him with an incurable intestinal disease. (Yikes) We ended the week by studying the story of Queen Athaliah who usurped the throne and become queen of Judah. We learned that God keeps His promises and allowed young Joash (a descendent of the throne) to live.
Math: We have been learning a lot about fractions this week! The students have learned how to compare fractions with like numerators and unlike denominators and vice versa. They have also been marking fractions and mixed numbers on a number line. They have also been deciding between two fractions which one is closer to 1.
Reading: The students and I are excited to have started our historical fiction novel study on the book "Number the Stars." This is a wonderful book about children demonstrating bravery during troubling times. We have read and discussed the first few chapters and are looking forward to continue reading next week. *NOTE: You are more than welcomed to read the novel at home as a family in English! Some families from previous years have done that. If you choose to do so, please don't read ahead! Gracias!* The students have also kicked off their work with their book clubs. The students read an assigned historical chapter book with their group and work on their diaries. The students have been doing a nice job taking charge of their work and learning.
Writing: We working hard on continuing drafting and improving our personal expertise essays.
Spelling: Here is the link to next week's spelling list!
