Week of May 19 to 23

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we studied Isaiah's call as found in Isaiah chapter 6. We connected this to our own lives by looking up verses in Scripture that tell about our own calling. We also studied Judah's sin and God's judgement. We also discussed how God offered HIs people mercy.

Math: We have started our geometry unit! In order to help support the students' learning of these new concepts at home, I have enrolled our class into Splash Learn. If you wish for your student to continue practicing at home, I have sent home the login information. This week, we learned about lines, points, segments, types of angles, and how to use a protractor to measure and draw angles.

Reading: We continue to make progress in our novel study of "Number the Stars."

Writing: The students have officially finished their personal expertise essays. They should have brought their essays home. Next week, we will shift gears in our writing class and will focus on our faith writing.

Social Studies: We have spent some time this week discussing incentives- both positive and negative alike. We studied vintage advertisements to identify the positive incentives. We discussed how fines and paying money tend to be a negative incentive.

Spelling: The students will be taking the 4th Grade High Frequency Words Spelling Test on Thursday, May 29. Here is the spelling list.

Homework Update (Week of May 27 to 30):

- I will not assign the reading and math logs as homework for the week of May 27 to 30.

- I am assigning two take home math quizzes which will be due Monday, June 2. The students are allowed to use the "cheat sheet" I have provided them. I have also given them a print out protractor to use. They are more than welcomed to check in with me during the week if they would like some help. :)

From the Office:

  • Wednesday, May 28 we will have field day - please dress your students in appropriate clothes for this fun afternoon together.

Grand Rapids Public Museum Field Trip (June 3):

I have one more chaperone slot available for this field trip. If you would like to chaperone, please sign up here.

"Fancy" Breakfast (June 4):

Hello parents!

We are approaching the end of the year! Wow, we made it! These kids have worked very hard this year; I am very proud of them. I want to celebrate THEM on the very last day of school. I believe in fellowshipping over food, so I want to bring that love into our classroom.

I want to hold a “fancy” breakfast buffet for our kids on the last day of school, Wednesday morning (June 4). However, I will need some parent help to make this happen!

I have come up with a list of supplies and breakfast items that we will need in order to make this “fancy” breakfast complete.

If you would like to help out in any way, please take a look at the sign-up. If you do sign up for something, please bring the items to school on Wednesday morning. I will be in the classroom by 7:35 AM. I would also be SO grateful if a parent or two would be willing to stay for a few extra minutes to help set the breakfast buffet up. Thank you for considering!

Bendiciones,

Hannah
