Week of May 5 to 9
What We Have Learned this Week:
Bible: We have finished Unit 14! The test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14. I am including the English study guide so that the parents can help guide and support their child's studying. Additionally, I am including the Spanish study guide. The students already have their physical copy. If your student would like to, they can play these Blooket games in order to help them review for their upcoming test.
Math: We have done so much in math this week. We compared decimals to the hundredths place and also compared decimals larger than one. We wrote mixed numbers as decimals in addition to writing out decimals given their names.
Reading: We are making steady progress in the book "Number the Stars." I hope the students are enjoying reading, discussing, and dissecting the book with me.
Writing: We continue to work on our personal expertise essay. We aim to finish these essays by May 23.
Social Studies: We explored the interaction of price, competition, and substitute goods. We learned that when prices decrease, demand for that good or service increases. We also examined how an increase in price lessens the demand for a good or service and can result in consumers choosing substitute goods or services.
Spelling: Here is the link to the next week's spelling list!

Library notice:
The week of May 5-9 is the last week for students to borrow books from the Rose Park Library.
All student library materials are due by May 16.
Sing, Move, and Memorize Books! - If you have any interest in purchasing sing, move, and memorize books for your family please feel free to do so at this link.
The annual fourth grade plant sale is coming to Rose Park on Thursday, May 22 starting at 7:30am. They will be selling tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of herbs. All plants will be $3.00 per pot, cash or check only. Mark your calendars!
GUINEA PIG SUMMER HOME - The fourth grade guinea pig, Stormi, is looking for a temporary home during the summer months. If your child(ren) have been asking for a(nother) pet, this is the perfect opportunity to appease them with a "short-term" pet. All supplies are provided (cage, bedding, food, etc.) for the summer. The only requirement is that Stormi not come in contact with any male guinea pigs. This can be a single family honor, or shared by multiple families throughout the summer. Stormi requires very little maintenance, and the small duties that do need to be performed can certainly be handled by your children - and you get the bonus of the hours of entertainment she can add to those long summer days! Please let Mrs. VanderZwaag (kvanderzwaag@hollandchristian.org) know if you would be interested in having her. Thank you!
4th Grade Plant Sale Work Shifts:
The 4th grade teachers are looking forward to the plant sale, and we are starting to plan for this FUN event. The students will be working shifts, and we need some willing workers to take the early shifts. I am looking for three students to work the 7:30 AM to 7:50 AM shift AND three different students to work the 7:50 AM to 8:10 AM shift. Please be mindful that the plant sale is scheduled for Thursday, May 22. If your student wishes to work one of these early shifts AND you are able to get your student to school on time for their shift, please send me an email and I will add the student to that particular work shift.
Please be on the lookout later this month for more plant sale details including the official work schedule and what to expect on that day.
