Week of May 18 to 22

What We Learned this Week: Bible :   We had a deeply impactful week in Bible as we continued our journey through Unit 14. Our lessons took us through the stories of different kings and the prophets who were boldly called to speak God's truth to them. Prosperity vs. Heart Conditions : J eroboam II & Israel : We looked at the 41  year reign of King Jeroboam II in Israel. Physically, the nation was thriving—the economy was booming, the military was strong, and their borders expanded. However, despite these external blessings, Jeroboam did evil, and the people continued to reject God’s covenant. It was a great reminder for the students that material success doesn't always reflect a right heart. The Voices of the Prophets : God sent specific messengers to call His people back to Him, and we focused on two of them this week: Amos the Shepherd : We learned how God called a simple shepherd named Amos to deliver a heavy message of judgment to Israel for their numerous sins. What We Learned this Week: Bible:  The students reviewed for the King Saul test and took the test. Next week, we look forward to starting the King David unit.  Math:  We reviewed for the Unit 3 Division Test this week, and the students took the test. Next week, we will start Unit 4 which deals with equations and word problems.  Reading:  This week, we used a web chart and an idea / detail chart to describe the topic of our non-fiction books. Writing:  The students shared their planning (a table of contents containing chapters) for their literary non-fiction book with a small group. They practiced using a teaching voice as they shared their ideas. We ended the week by focusing on one chapter and developing ways to describe the main idea. The students used boxes and lists in order to do so. We are getting to the drafting stage of our writi...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  T his week, in Bible we learned how David, his men, and their families fled to Philistia to get away from King Saul. David earned King Achish's trust and was assigned to live in the city of Ziklag. While living there, David carried out raids and eventually destroyed the Amalekites. We also studied the story of King Saul and the witch of Endor. Saul wanted to know the outcome of the upcoming battle with the Philistines, so he consulted the witch. During the consultation with the witch, Saul learned that God had definitely cut him off and that he and his sons would die in battle the next day. King Saul and his sons did indeed die during Israel's battle with the Philistines, and David and the Israelites mourned the deaths of King Saul and Jonathan. The test is scheduled for Thursday, December 11 . The study guide materials were provided before the Thanksgiving break. I am including the study guide links for your convenience. The English study gu...
