What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied how King Saul started off his reign by obeying and loving God. However, King Saul began to sin by disobeying God. Our class learned that God used Samuel in order to inform Saul that his kingdom would be taken from him and given to someone else more worthy of the throne. Math:  We have been reviewing for the upcoming unit 2 test.  The students will be taking the unit two test on Monday, November 3. The students must be able to perform the following types of multiplication problems: 1 digit by 2 digits, 1 digit by 3 digits, 1 digit by 4 digits, and 2 digits by 2 digits. It may be a good idea to have your student begin to practice a bit at home. The students have several study materials at their disposal to help them prepare for the test: a practice test and several review packets.  Reading:  We have been paying careful attention to the actions of minor characters towards the main characters. We discussed wh...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we finished our reading and study of how Saul was anointed the first king of Israel.  Math:  The students were introduced to 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication. We used area models in the following methods: place value sections, algebraic notation, and expanded notation. They also learned the short-cut method. The students will be taking the unit two test at the end of the week of October 27 to 31. The students must be able to perform the following types of multiplication problems: 1 digit by 2 digits, 1 digit by 3 digits, 1 digit by 4 digits, and 2 digits by 2 digits. It may be a good idea to have your student begin to practice a bit at home. We will be reviewing in class during the week of October 27 to 31. Writing:  This week, we talked about the importance of showing rather than telling in our writing. Showing and describing emotion was this week's topic. Our faces and bodies are so expressive when we show emotion. We ...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  We finished up the Samuel unit this week. We started our next unit which will overview King Saul's reign. This week, we studied how God revealed to Samuel (and to Saul himself) that Saul was to be the very first king of Israel. Math:  This week, we learned how to perform 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. We started off by drawing area models to visualize our thinking. Then, we used those area models in the following methods: place value sections, algebraic notation, and expanded notation. We concluded the week by learning the shortcut method. We will be reviewing in class during the week of October 27 to 31....

What We Have Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we started our new Samuel unit. We learned about Hannah and how she earnestly prayed to God for a son. We talked about how God sometimes doesn't always answer our prayers with a "yes," and that means God's understanding is better than ours. Later, we studied how God called out to Samuel in the night and told a prophecy concerning Eli and his two evil sons. We ended the week by studying how the Philistine army captured the ark of the covenant from the Israelites and how Hophni and Phinehas (Eli's two sons) were killed in battle. Upon hearing the news of his sons' death, Eli fell backwards out of his chair and died. Thus, God's prophecy in Samuel's vision was fulfilled. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15. The students already have the physical copy of the study guide. You will find the English study guide  here , and this is meant as a support tool for the parents at home. You can find the S...

What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we reviewed and tested over the Judges and Ruth unit. Our next unit will focus on Samuel. This unit only consists of a few lessons which means the unit test will approach rather quickly. The test will most likely happen mid-week during the week of October 13 to 17. In order to provide sufficient study and review time at home, I am providing the study materials right away. You will find the English study guide here . This is meant as a support tool for the parents at home. You can find the Spanish study guide here , and I will provide the students with their hard copy very soon. If you allow your student to play the Blooket review games, the link can be found here . Happy studying! Math:  This week, we investigated three methods to multiply a single digit number by a two-digit number- the place value sections method, expanded notation form method, and algebraic notation form method.  Reading:  We have started our novel stu...
