Week of October 20 and 21

What We Learned this Week:

Bible: This week, we finished our reading and study of how Saul was anointed the first king of Israel.

Math: The students were introduced to 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication. We used area models in the following methods: place value sections, algebraic notation, and expanded notation. They also learned the short-cut method.

The students will be taking the unit two test at the end of the week of October 27 to 31. The students must be able to perform the following types of multiplication problems: 1 digit by 2 digits, 1 digit by 3 digits, 1 digit by 4 digits, and 2 digits by 2 digits. It may be a good idea to have your student begin to practice a bit at home. We will be reviewing in class during the week of October 27 to 31.

Writing: This week, we talked about the importance of showing rather than telling in our writing. Showing and describing emotion was this week's topic. Our faces and bodies are so expressive when we show emotion. We investigated what our bodies do in order to convey different emotions. We then applied it to our writing.

Spelling: Click here for next week's spelling list.
