Week of January 5 to 9
What We Learned this Week:
Bible: We saw how God's covenant with Abraham was being fulfilled during David's reign. David conquered the countries in the area and brought peace to Israel. As a result, Israel become a world power because of the victories that God gave David. We also studied how David fulfilled his covenant with Jonathan by caring for Mephibosheth- essentially adopting him into the royal family. It is a parallelism of how God adopts us as His own and invites us to live with Him. However, we learned that great temptation comes with being king. David was disobedient to God and sank deeper and deeper into sin as he tried to hide his sin with Bathsheba. We ended the week by learning how the prophet Nathan confronted David with his sin. God forgave David when he truly repented of his sins; God forgives us when we repent of our sins, too.
The test is scheduled for Friday, January 16. The students have already received their hard copy of the study guide a few days ago. I am including the link to the Spanish study guide here. Additionally, I am including the link to the English study guide here. The parents can use the English study guide to help support their student's studying. I am also including the link to the Blooket test review games here.
Math: This week, we have been focusing primarily on word problems that required the students to decide if multiplication, division, subtraction, or addition is needed to solve. We have been drawing bars to help us visualize these problems. The students have also been writing equations and solving them.
Reading: We used a cause and effect graphic organizer to visually display causes and their effects in the non-fiction books we are reading.
Writing: This week, the students have been working hard on writing an outline for each chapter of their literary non-fiction personal expertise book.
Social Studies: We have started social studies. Our first area of studies focuses on describing the physical location and physical, natural characteristics (landforms) of the United States of America.
Spelling: Here is the link to next week's spelling list!

Parent Help Volunteer Opportunity:
I am excited to share that during the third week of January, our 4th graders will be leading a special buddy activity with their 2nd-grade buddies. To make this event a success for all the students, I am looking for a few parent volunteers to help with the following needs:
1. Snack Coordinator
We are looking for one volunteer to secure 35 individual bags of Smartfood white cheddar popcorn to serve as a snack for the students during the activity.
2. Snowman Template Artist
We are looking for an artistically inclined parent to help us create large snowman outlines on cardstock or poster board. These will serve as templates for the students' project.
Design: Each snowman should consist of three circles (large on the bottom, medium in the middle, and small on top).
Supplies: The school has plenty of cardstock and poster board available, so I can provide all the necessary materials for you to use!
How to Help
If you are interested in helping out by providing the snacks or by creating these snowman templates, please send me an email! I would be happy to provide more specific details and answer any questions you might have.
Thank you so much for considering this opportunity to support our students and their younger buddies!
