What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we studied the story of King Ahab and his disobedience to God. The Lord provided the Israelites with a victory over Syria and its leader Ben-Hadad. However, King Ahab disobeyed God when he chose to allow Ben-Hadad to live. We also discussed the importance of property owning in the Old Testament and how / when the Israelites could obtain land. That connected to our story of King Ahab and Naboth's vineyard.  Math:  We have been learning how to multiply whole numbers by unit fractions and proper fractions this week. Reading:  We are continuing forward with the book "Number the Stars." The students are fascinated by this story. It's so wonderful to see. Math:  This week, we have been practicing adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. We then moved onto learning how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. Answer keys are included!  Writing:  The students have started to immerse themselves in literary essays. They will continue this work next week.  Grammar:  This week, we studied the Spanish demonstrative pronouns in addition to consonant groups- "l" and "r."   What We Learned this Week: Bible:  This week, we talked about Elijah's physical and spiritual exhaustion after his victory on Mount Carmel. We focused on how God talked to Elijah in a still, small voice after the spectacular natural displays of wonder- the strong wind, an earthquake, and fire. It was in this moment of silence that God chose to speak to Elijah. We asked ourselves if we are taking moments of silence in our busy schedules to listen to God's voice. How can we hear His voice if we are surrounded by constant "noise"?  Math:  We have started our fractions unit! This week, the students learned how to add unit fractions and how to determine if a fraction is bigger or smaller than another fraction. We also refreshed ourselves on how to pronounce fraction names in Spanish.  Some of the students and I were talking about the math fact fluency homework assignments. They talked about a website that they use to practice their multiplication facts. I took a lo...
